Memorable Moment:
On Memorial Day, May 30, 1924, New Bedford unveiled Battery "D" Square park. It is a monument to the men who were killed while serving in New Bedford's Battery "D", 102nd Field Artillery in the Yankee Division of the New England National Guardsmen in World War I.
In 1930, the only two teams in the New England League, in Massachusetts, were Lynn and Salem. All other teams were located in New Hampshire and Maine. Sunday baseball, at this point, was only legal in Massachusetts, so Battery Park was used as a neutral site for a handful of games on Sunday between the teams not playing at Lynn or Salem.
