In an effort to honor the nation's military, MLB hosted a regular season game at Fort Bragg, the country's largest military installation by population. Major League Baseball and the Player's Association spent $5 million to convert an unused golf course to a baseball diamond. Tickets were given away to military members. After the game, the stadium was dismantled and the field was converted to a multi-use field. This was the first MLB game played on an active military base and the first one played in North Carolina.
